Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL Review

The Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL: Is It the Perfect Hard Working Companion for You?

If you’re browsing through sites, you’d see that there are so many netbook models available but they all hardly differ in performance or specifications. Aside from the obvious physical differences from brand to brand, most netbooks really don’t stand apart … if you don’t look carefully. It’s still essential to pick a mini notebook computer that performs perfectly for what you need it for: on-the-go computing, entertainment, and communication.

The Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL mini laptop is just one among Toshiba’s many on-the-go netbooks. What did we like about this model, and how does it stand out from the rest? It rated pretty well on a Consumer Reports review so we wanted to find out how great (or bad) this mini laptop is.

Appearance

The model’s textured finish was a plus: research shows it looks great and is less susceptible to scratching or fingerprint marks. The Royal Blue hue of the netbook also made it stand out from a sea of black or white netbooks. However, it is available in Frost White and Sable Brown as well instead of the ubiquitous black.

The Chiclet-style keyboard fared well on typing: for its small size it only took a while for most people to feel comfortable during article-typing or text chat sessions. The touchpad is wonderfully large. What some did not like was the large size of the battery – it bulges out and breaks the streamlined look of this mini device. But this appearance downside is more than made up for by the battery’s life, which we shall discuss later on.

Performance

The Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL mini notebook computer runs on an Intel 1.6 GHz Atom N280 processor, with built in 1GB RAM and a 160GB hard drive. We actually found in our research that this netbook ran slightly faster compare to other mini notebook models. Web browsing was great on the LED display; apps ran without major difficulty or lagging.

What’s great about Toshiba netbooks like this one is the integrated Sleep and Charge function: even when the mini laptop is turned off or on Sleep Mode, you can plug your mobile phone or other devices to the USB port and charge it. You don’t have to worry about the laptop running out of power, because the bulky battery we described earlier can actually hold up to 9 hours of charge life. We consider this a major advantage because it truly maximizes the portability of this small device and it means that you can take it outdoors for whatever meeting/writing/watching endeavor you have and not worry about the battery running out.

With the Wi-Fi, built in webcam, and multiple USB ports, it should not be a problem going online, chatting with friends, or sharing files just about anywhere you wish. The Toshiba mini notebook computer comes with a special hard drive movement sensor that puts the HD on “park” mode so that it will be protected against sudden shocks or drops.

Verdict

The Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL mini notebook computer fared well with performance and looks. We’d recommend it as a sturdy little companion if you like doing your business or pleasure on the go.
