Samsung NP-N150-JA03US Review

Sensible Style: The Samsung NP-N150-JA03US Mini Notebook Computer

Let’s face it: everyone needs to bring some form of gadget everywhere with them all the time. Our lifestyles require us to be daily multitasking individuals. That’s why there is a great need for a mobile gadget that does not just perform superbly but is also easy to bring in the bag or the car.

This is where the importance of netbooks comes in. They are definitely the best portable alternative for desktops or office laptops because they come in a smaller size, almost similar parts and functions, and yet are still compact and light enough not to require an extra carrying case.

With those things in order, which netbook should you go for? One model you might want to consider is the Samsung NP-N150-JA03US. Today we’ll do a review of this brand’s latest mini notebook computer offering and see whether it meets your personal or official needs:

Appearance: Slim and Stylish

Samsung gadgets are always noted for their sophisticated good looks and this mini laptop model does not deviate from that mold. The Samsung NP-N150-JA03US comes with a blue cover that will not look out of place in the boardroom or in the front row of Fashion Week. The all-black interior is matte, with neatly labeled keys and function buttons at the bottom. The Samsung N150 10.1-Inch Netbook is also available in a Black Matte finish which is, as one customer put it, “… great and lends a sleek, businesslike look to the netbook.”

This particular netbook comes with an almost full-sized keyboard and a touch pad with left and right click buttons. One drawback was the smaller palm rest area (to make way for the bigger keyboard), which might present a problem during long typing sessions or when scrolling quite a bit. But only a handful of users experienced that problem with this netbook, so all in all, we’d say it’s still well-designed for spontaneous blogging or surfing and it looks really great.

Performance: Sufficient Hardware Requirements for On-The-Go Computing

This mini notebook computer contains the same standard specs that we have liked on the top mini notebooks: an Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz processor and 1GB of DDR2 memory which is expandable up to 2G (most critics recommend using this). The netbook is Wi-Fi capable, of course, and the screen resolution is the usual 1240 X 600 found in netbooks.

This model runs on Windows 7 Starter, which is great for loading up apps and files faster – a definite plus for us. What wasn’t liked generally is the 160 GB hard drive storage. Although this is pretty acceptable for a mobile computer, we know that most netbooks already carry 250 GB built in hard drives. Still, this is only a need if you don’t have a desktop or laptop for official use. Since we’d usually use the device for travel or internet, then 160GB is not really bad.

In running the Samsung NP-N150-JA03US there were no problems cited – running office applications were fast and playing back movies and videos were OK. On a standard internet connection there were no lags reported when viewing web sites or streaming videos. Battery life lasted 5 -7 hours without charging, depending on the load of applications that you’d have open.

Conclusion

This mini notebook computer is a standard device which meets our needs, and gets plus points for stylish portability. As it placed third in a Top Ten Consumer Reports article on mini laptops and was well recommended by them, this netbook will be worth your money.
